| Calais is located on the St. Croix River (which is the border between the U.S. and Canada). There are two border crossings in Calais and a third is under construction.
Calais has a new hospital (constructed in 2006), shopping opportunities (such as Wal-Mart, two large grocery stores, and many locally owned shops) and a number of dining establishments. Many more stores and restaurants are just across the Canadian border in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. It's also just a few short minutes to beautiful Passamaquoddy Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
Bangor is just a short 90 minute drive West on scenic Maine Route 9 and St. John, New Brunswick is just over an hour East.

 It has 2770 square feet of living space and is covered with Cedar log siding. The deck (facing the lake) is ten by thirty feet! The engineered septic system was also installed new at the time of construction and consists of a concrete 500 gallon tank and a working leech field. A wood stove in the finished basement, a gas fireplace in the ground-level living room, and hot-water baseboard heat (No. 2 Fuel Oil) combine to keep this house toasty warm (and efficient) during cold weather.
Turning the opposite direction from the photo above and walking down the short path, this is the view of Meddybemps Lake from the shore. The present owners put a pontoon boat in at the private boat dock (used by residents in the Homeowners Association) just down the road and moor it at a dock that they put in during the Spring, Summer, and Fall months.Meddybemps Lake is about 7 miles long from shore to shore and is actually in four different towns. This is a quiet, peaceful area. During the boating months you will see a few recreational boats and fishermen go by, and in the Winter ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and some snowmobiling occurs on the lake. There are also several interesting islands in the lake.
About Alexander, Maine & The Area |
| This home is located just inside the town limits of Alexander. When you leave the lake area and travel East on Route 9 you will cross into the town of Baileyville in less than one half mile. In just four miles Route 9 ends at the intersection with U.S. Route 1. There are two gas stations and a restaurant at this location, as well as the U.S. Border Patrol facility. A turn to the left takes you into the "town area" of Baileyville in about two miles (also referred to locally as "Woodland" but not to be confused with the town of Woodland in Aroostook County). Baileyville also has a post office, grocery store, pizza parlour and other amenities. A right turn at the intersection with U.S. Route 1 takes you to Calais (and the Canadian border) in just over five minutes. The Town of Alexander is served by a very efficient volunteer fire department which just acquired a brand new state-of-the-art fire truck in the Summer of 2007, and they also conduct frequent training exercises. The town also has an ambulance and is part of the Downeast EMS system - which serves many towns and offers advanced life support services and 911 dispatching. Fire and medical emergencies are responded to 24 hours a day and very quickly by a dedicated team. The town office is less than five miles West of the lake and just off Route 9. This is also a safe neighborhood. Several agents of the U.S. Border Patrol live on the same road. Alexander also has an elementary school with a modern facility. The school was built just a few years ago and is consistently ranked very high when compared with other elementary schools. The school is less than five miles West of the home on Route 9. High School students living in Alexander commonly attend either Calais High School or Woodland High School.

 Two bedrooms are on the ground level and the master suite is upstairs. The home is well-designed to provide each member of the family with privacy, yet offers a number of common areas for family enjoyment. The home also features a ten by eight foot mud-room entryway - making it convenient to enter and exit and also as a place to store shoes and coats.

| If you're a lover of the outdoors, you'll never find a place quite like Washington County - and, the Town of Alexander. Whether it's snowmobiling in the Winter or riding all-terrain vehicles, Alexander is the hub of hundreds of miles of trails. The town boasts a very active snowmobile club and the trails are well-maintained and groomed. Likewise, ATV riders will find an amazement of trails to explore. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and see those off-the-beaten-path locations that you don't see from the road! Make sure you have a GPS Receiver because there are so many trails you can easily end up 50 miles or more from home on a long ride. The varying terrain and interesting locations and wildlife will provide a lifetime of excitement.

Whether you may mountain bike, like to hike, enjoy kayaking, swimming, snowshoeing, or take pleasure in a nice walk. More than one local company is available to pick up refuse and the mail is delivered at the corner of Route 9 and the access road to a locked multi-user mailbox placed at the location by the US Postal Service.

This home is also located in the Quoddy Regional Land Trust, which is is dedicated to conserving the wildlife, open space and natural resources of eastern Washington County for the benefit of present and future generations. No industrial or commercial development will occur near this home.
